New Trends to be Watched in Twenty Sixteen

2015 has seen some trends that will continue to grow this year as well. Here is the alphabetical listing of these trends that will be there to watch.


Apps: Year 2015 has been the year of Apps. You think about any product or service and there is a mobile application for it. Almost everything from grocery, appliance, apparel, utility, travel is available on apps.


Broadcast: Broadcast of non-cricketing sports have been the highlight and with the kind of sponsorship and advertisement they are getting it will only increase.

China: Like it or hate it but you can't ignore it! Downfall in the growth of Chinese economy will continue to affect the Indian business environment.

Deepika: Deepika Padukone has emerged as the most successful actress for the two consecutive years. Her brand value is highest amongst all and she will be seen associated with big brands.

Ecommerce: The success of ecommerce industry is no surprise. It took some time in country like India thanks to not so good infrastructure, but now, the ecommerce industry is a threat to many big retailers.

Facebook: The dominance of social media will continue. The effective reach to target audience is the key and that's the reason of success of facebook. 

GST: The Goods and Services Tax will be implemented this year. This Tax is expected to regularised tax system across different states. This is going to be a benchmark for logistics in India.


High- Definition: From HD televisions, cameras, prints band computers to paints, the HD revolution will only better itself and will be expanded to other product categories as well.

Intolerance: So much is talked about it in the year 2015 but I want to talk about intolerance for unfair and unethical practices. Basically the reach of the people and connectivity with each other will help them make it a better marketplace.

Jio: Everyone including telecom service providers are eagerly waiting for the launch of Reliance Jio 4G services. As the strategy guru's say, there will be scene where bigger fishes will be eating smaller fishes in the telecom sector.

Kids Fashion: Big brands like Armani, US Polo and Pepe are entering children apparel market in India. Seeing the opportunity for better reach through online shopping portals like snapdeal and flipkart, these brands are keen on selling in India.

Leagues: Non-cricketing sports like football, badminton and tennis have had some popularity in India and their companionships on league format is no surprise. But the popularity of very Indian sport Kabaddi is phenomenal. These leagues will continue to attract big owners and sponsors but also will be successful in engage audiences and advertisers.

Maggi: The Nestle brand maggi has become a litmus test to check the very short memory of consumers. From the anger to welcome back, maggi will stand as a clear winner!

Net Neutrality: The telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) is asking people's opinion about the right for the equal digital rights. While Zukerbuck will be for free internet basics, Pichai will be rooting for Loon!

Owned Media: Companies will be seen chasing consumers through own media like websites, blogs, emails rather than broadcast media like televisions and platform media.

Patanjali: Indian consumers will continue to favour organic and ayurvedic products. Baba Ramdev's Patanjali became a household name in no time  and will coming up with new category of products.

Quantico: Priyanka Chopra brought of lot of laurels by bagging a role in US series Quantico. She won millions of hearts by her performance and also got People's Choice Award for the year 2016.

Research: This trend is forever and it will be remain as the most important trend for marketers. With the enormous amount of data (....gigabytes, terabytes, petabytes, exabytes, zetabytes and yotabytes) available these days, better data analytic mechanisms will be in crucial for marketing and management decision makings.

Sunburn: The music and music festival will be very popular. Sunburn with their EDM music created the differentiation but more will seen as India is already rocking with Hardwell!

Travel: Indians travelers will explore newer unseen and offbeat places. In 2015, movies like Dil Dhadakne Do and Tamasha have promoted Cruise holidays and unheard destination like Corsica and many to be explored!

Uber: This US based transportation network company was the first one to come up with taxi booking app using smartphones. This model has become very successful and many other companies followed. This trend may be the most helpful trend for 2016.

Virtual Reality: Came and went in early 2014, but this so far expensive technology will be seen taking new dimensions and will be used for other marketing purposes and not just some gaming consoles. The Oculus rift will be released this year and will change the way people game. 

Walmart: In India Walmart operates as Walmart, Bharti Walmart, Best Price Wholesale stores in around 20 locations in 8 states. With their commitment and focus on growing in cash and carry and B2B ecommerce business they will define the retail scenario in India.

Xiaomi: Chinese mobile makers Xiaomi with their effective pricing strategy and focus will be seen as new craze amongst youngsters.

Youtube: From marketers perspective, the future of advertising is shifting from television to youtube. With the flexibility of time and low cost youtube will be the dominant media this year. 

Zara: Fast fashions will be the model for new generation. Zara was very successful in the apparel market in India due to their smart logistics and inventory control policies. This will be the business model to follow.
